James Meek

Great Britain

James Meek has gained international acclaim as a novelist, journalist and short story writer. Born in London in 1962, Meek grew up in Dundee, Scotland. He served as a reporter in Russia and the Ukraine from 1991-1999 before returning to London.  In 2004, Meek gathered an array of awards for his reports on Iraq and Guantánamo.

James Meek has published two collections of short stories: Last Orders and The Museum of Doubt, and three novels: Drivetime, McFarlane Boils the Sea and The People’s Act of Love, set in Siberia during the Russian Civil War.

"Meek´s theme is a great one: the horror of watching political or spiritual extremism extinguish common sense and common humanity."

His new novel We Are Now Beginning Our Descent will be published next autumn.

James Meek lives in London, where he contributes to the Guardian and the London Review of Books.
