A. B. Yehoshua
Israel
One of Israel´s pre-eminent writers, Avraham “Boolie” Yehoshua was born in 1936 in Jerusalem. In 1976, The Lover established his reputation.
"He is to Israel what García Márquez is to Colombia, Grass
is to Germany and Rushdie is to India - a kind of literary spokesman
for the entire country."
Yehoshua’s novels, which include A Late Divorce, Five Seasons, The Liberated Bride, A Woman in Jerusalem and Friendly Fire possess
an “anti-stream of consciousness.” He lists Franz Kafka, Shmuel
Yosef Agnon and William Faulkner as his main literary influences.
"It may seem a crazy idea, but not to me. You could say I´ve become an expert on the subject of missing persons."
Yehoshua’s works have been awarded the
Bialik Prize, the Brenner Prize, the Alterman Prize, and the Israeli
Prize, the most prestigious award given by the state of Israel.
A. B. Yehoshua lives in Haifa.
